Puncture assessment at a safe vehicle location

# Mobile puncture repair without a garage trip

If a tyre is losing pressure, we can check the independent fitter network for someone able to assess it at your location. Repair is only offered when the damage and tyre condition meet safe repair limits.

## Check puncture-repair availability

Enter the postcode and tyre size. Describe any nail, screw, warning light or visible damage when WhatsApp opens.

## A puncture repair is a safety decision

A puncture may look simple from the outside, but a permanent repair depends on more than plugging the visible hole. The tyre must be assessed for damage position, hole size, remaining tread, age and internal condition. British Mobile Tyres checks independent fitters who may be able to inspect the tyre where the vehicle is safely parked.

The fitter makes the repairability decision. A small penetration in the central tread may be suitable after inspection. Damage in the shoulder or sidewall, multiple penetrations, exposed cords, a bulge or evidence that the tyre was driven flat can make replacement necessary.

## Why the puncture position matters

The central tread is reinforced differently from the sidewall and shoulder. A compliant repair must sit within the area where the tyre construction can support it safely. The flexible outer zones are exposed to repeated bending and heat, so a standard patch is not an appropriate answer to every leak.

Do not remove a nail or screw before the fitter arrives. It may be slowing the air loss and shows where the penetration occurred. If pressure is falling quickly, stop driving and keep the vehicle in a safe position.

## Slow leaks are not always tread punctures

A gradual warning-light return can be caused by a valve, the seal between tyre and wheel, rim damage or a very small tread penetration. Tell us whether the pressure drops over hours or days and whether the vehicle recently hit a pothole or kerb. That information helps the fitter prepare for diagnosis rather than assuming a single fault.

## Safe roadside and car-park attendance

The vehicle needs to be away from live traffic with room beside the wheel. A home drive, quiet residential bay or accessible workplace car park may be suitable. A live motorway lane, narrow hard shoulder or exposed bend is not a safe fitting location; use emergency or recovery assistance in those circumstances.

Underground and multi-storey car parks can also create access problems because of height limits, security barriers and poor working space. Share these restrictions during the network check.

## What the booking covers

We confirm the quoted attendance and expected service before booking. If inspection shows the tyre cannot be repaired, the fitter should explain why and discuss a suitable replacement price before proceeding. Ask whether the initial quote covers assessment, valve work or a repair and what changes if replacement is required.

Availability depends on the postcode, tyre size, fitter workload and traffic. There is no standard nationwide arrival time, and no repair outcome is promised before the tyre has been inspected.

## Before you enquire

Keep the vehicle stationary where practical and gather the details needed for a safe assessment.

- Do not remove an embedded object
- Note how fast pressure is dropping
- Check for sidewall cuts, bulges or exposed cords
- Read the complete tyre size
- Describe parking and access restrictions

Repair may or may not be possible

## Three outcomes a fitter may identify

The inspection protects you from an unsafe temporary fix and makes the next step clear.

### Repairable tread penetration

A small central-tread puncture may be permanently repaired when the tyre passes internal and external checks.

### Valve or bead leak

The tyre itself may be intact while a valve or wheel seal is losing air. The correct fix depends on the inspection.

### Replacement required

Shoulder, sidewall or structural damage usually means a new tyre is safer than attempting a puncture repair.

 Clear answers before booking

## Mobile puncture repair FAQs

Should I pull the nail or screw out?No. Leave it in place until the tyre is assessed. Removing it can increase the rate of pressure loss and make the vehicle harder to move safely.

Can a puncture be repaired on my driveway?Often, yes, provided the surface is level and there is enough room around the wheel for the fitter and equipment.

Are tyre sealants a permanent repair?Emergency sealant is generally a temporary mobility aid, not a substitute for a professional internal assessment and compliant repair.

What if I drove on the tyre while it was flat?Driving while flat can damage the internal sidewall even when the outside looks normal. Tell the fitter, because replacement may be required.

Can run-flat tyres be repaired? It depends on the manufacturer guidance, damage and whether the tyre was driven with no pressure. The fitter must assess the specific tyre.

Can a puncture near the edge be repaired?Damage near the shoulder or sidewall is normally outside the standard repairable tread area and is likely to require replacement.

Will you bring a replacement tyre as well?Replacement stock can be checked when the tyre size is known. Ask for this during the enquiry if the damage may not be repairable.

Is weekend or evening help available? It depends on fitter availability, stock and demand in your postcode. We provide the available estimate after checking the network.
